Makers Kit

My friend Skye came to visit me last weekend and we had the most jam-packed, fun weekend ever. It totally kicked my ass but it was totally worth it. We did so much but one of my favorite things we did was stumbling upon Makers Kit on Melrose. It was the most serendipitous thing and l am so happy we found it, so now I feel like that I have to tell the whole world about this place!
So basically Makers Kit is an awesome DIY shop that specializes in terrariums but also does a bunch of other cool kits and DIY projects. When you first walk in, you feel like you are getting a much needed breath of fresh air. There is so much greenery everywhere and it is so bright and airy that you almost feel lighter. Once you regain consciousness from all the extra oxygen and if you decided to build a terrarium (which you will), you get to float around and pick everything out that you want for your masterpiece; from the vase (how badass is that skull vase?!), to the succulents and air plants, to the color of moss and even the color of rocks. When you get everything you want together (be warned, you'll want everything) they will get you all set up at their assembly table and one of their very helpful staff members will walk you through the building process. It was so much fun and I am OBSESSED with the final product . Living in a small apartment in the middle of LA, I don't really get the opportunity to garden or plant anything. So it was so nice to be able to get my hands dirty and plant some straight up nature. The smell of the soil and the feeling of the moss between my fingers was so therapeutic. It made it even more special to do this with one of my best friends. This is definitely of fun group activity, so good thing Makers Kit does group classes, workshops and private parties.
Seriously you guys, next time you are in Los Angeles, you have to visit this place. It is a million times better than that wine and paint by numbers thing that everyone else it doing. You will actually want to put the finished product on display in your home, instead of tucked away in a closet somewhere never the see the light of day again. I will definitely be bringing more of my friends here to make terrariums. You can never have too many, right? (they're going to call me the crazy terrarium lady, aren't they?)

Tell me about it, Stud

This was a fun look to put together. I have been looking for a reason to utilize my black bandana and this worked out great. This was actually the look that inspired the whole series so I've been pretty excited to post this. This was the very first look I shot and it is crazy to see the transformation of body language between this and other looks I have been shooting. I am really enjoying doing these, so I hope you guys aren't sick of seeing them. Oh and just a fun little fact, the school I am in front of is the actual high school that Grease was shot. It doesnt really look like Rydell High anymore because it is painted a different color and the landscaping has changed. But the main structure is the exact same. Hope you guys enjoy!

The only man a girl can depend on is her daddy

It's funny how you can come up with something in your mind, but some how it turns out completely different than you imagined it. That is what happened with this look. The only thing that turned out the way I pictured was my hair. It was still really fun to do and I like how this turned out. But it's not at all what I originally set out to do. I will have to do what I was actually picturing some other time when I can find everything. It's just funny because I'm sitting here looking at these pictures and thinking to myself, "how the hell did it end up like this?" ha. I guess I was just so excited for warmer weather that I changed everything last minute. Anyway, I bet you guys didn't care about any of that... so I'm glad I told you. Have fun looking at my glowing legs.

This week: Frenchy

(Btw the hair paint stuff got EVERYWHERE. It was fun for pictures and I'd maybe use it again for Halloween, but I wouldn't use it on a normal day. It was a mess.)

Robert M. Drake

If you know me or follow me on instagram, you know that I am fond of poetry. It is such a powerful form of communication and expression that I feel doesn't get the recognition it deserves in modern time. I love how it can express a moment and feeling in such a beautifully effortless way. It can shake you to the core and bring tears to your eyes in just a few short lines. It can make you smile and take you back to a special moment with a loved one. It can bring understanding. It can bring motivation. It inspires. It's what all good songs consist of. It is the heart of letters that are written between lovers separated by distance. It is an outlet for people in their darkest and loneliest moments. It's an expression of pure happiness and triumph when general language will not do. Words are powerful.

On days that I feel low key and just want to stay in, one of my favorite things to do is curl up in my bed, get a hot beverage and read. (If that doesn't make me sound like a middle-aged woman, I don't know what will.) Recently, I have been drawn to poetry books, particularly Robert M. Drake's work. There have been so many times that I have read something of his and thought "that is exactly how I feel and/or felt!". It's crazy how someone you have never met, can capture a feeling you have experienced so perfectly in words.

Drake is breathing life back into modern poetry. He has gained such a substantial following and even has people like Kylie Jenner talking about him. Not gonna lie, I felt a little annoyed (and by "little", I mean A LOT) when I saw that she had mentioned him. But if it gets people reading more, then I guess there are worse things that could happen. I have been following R.M. Drake for awhile and am so pumped on how much his popularity has grown. Hopefully the same will happen for more poets and we can keep this beautiful art form flourishing.

Here are a few of my favorite pieces by him:

dont think.
it complicates things.
just feel, and if it
feels like home, then
follow its path.
-r.m. drake

you are not like the
rest of them, you are a
fighter. so keep on fighting.
that is what you were
born to do.
everything else
is comedy and politics,
things that are meant to
distract you,
from all the things you were
born to fight for.
-r.m. drake

because deep down inside you,
the sun rises and the moon sets.
because deep down inside you, there's
more than what most people see: an
ocean deep enough to drown the world.
because deep down inside you, there's a
love and it's connected to the way the
planets move. because deep down inside
you, there's fire and snow, life and
death, strength and weakness. and
they're all fighting for your
attention. because deep down inside
you, such places do exist and all
places need to be found, and they're
all in you, all you have to do...
is believe.
-r.m. drake

she left her heart little.
she left her heart childish.
and for her, every little
moment felt like butterflies.
she did not want to believe
there was an end to love. so
she drowned in the seconds
beneth the moment where magic
and stillness collide. and
everytime she looked into his
eyes, she was reminded of how
it felt to be alive.
-r.m. drake

i am only interested in complicated
things. so do not give me what is easy,
that I do not want. give me the things
you do not understand. give me the
oceans you are too afraid to swim in,
and the trees you cannot climb because
they scare you. give me all the parts
of you that you are afraid of. give me
what worries you, what tears you apart.
if you are broken, then I will mend
you. I will dance with your fears and
make love to everything that makes you
feel alone.

I ain't no one's trophy

This look is probably the one I have been the most excited about posting. I was trying to get Rizzo with a little bit of Stephanie Zinone from Grease 2 (Michelle Pfeiffer is my dream girl). It turned out almost exactly how I picture it, which is always satisfying. I just wish that the weather would have been better so I could have had better lighting. But we can't have it all, right? I guess it worked out for the best since I probably would have combust into flames with direct sunlight...being a vampire and all. You don't realize how much you are lacking Vitamin-D till you see yourself glowing in photos. But it is, what it is. Hope you guys like it!

Lets talk about tea, ba-by (salt 'n pepper....no?)

Okay, I just want to start off by saying that I am obviously not paid to say any of this (I hardly have any followers, why would anyone pay me?) But since I have been trying to get back into shape after a year.....or two...*cough*...or five of being a walking food disposal and professional Netflix marathonererer; I figured I would share what has been helping me on get back on the right path. Just in case anyone reading this is in a similar 'pickle'.

Getting back into a healthy lifestyle is very challenging. Especially when you are the kind of person who wants to see instant results after eating one healthy meal and doing five crunches. But old habits die hard, remember? So anything that is not "diet" oriented that can help make the transition a little easier, is welcome in my routine with open arms. Your Tea has become one of those things.

I am currently doing their Tiny Tea 28 day 'TeaTox' and it has honestly been a game changer. It has helped me with so many chronic symptoms that were making it hard for me to stay on the right track. For example, it has helped me with:
  • Low energy and fatigue
  • IBS
  • Bloating
  • Headaches
  • Over eating
I kept eating really healthy, but I felt like my body wasn't absorbing any of the nutrients. It felt like it had been so long since my stomach has had to deal with a proper salad, that it didn't even know what to do with it anymore. So it would just throw the whole thing out and request items that it was comfortable with, like grilled cheese sandwiches and frozen burritos. And as it would turn out, that was basically the exact scenario happening in my stomach

With all of the crazy hormones, chemicals and added sugars in today's modern diet, our stomachs and livers are bound to get over worked and dysfunctional. So when you try to change to a cleaner diet, our stomachs can become confused and not be able to tell the difference between nutrients and waste. So in that confusion, it will just convert everything to waste and you are hit with a huge crave wave for something to fuel your body. Then an over eating of 'comfort' foods happen and we introduce more toxins into our bodies. But our livers cannot keep up with all of the toxins that need to be filtered. So that is when adipose tissue (aka fat) will appear. Since the liver is unable to clear out all of the harmful toxins, the body will produce fat cells to trap the gross stuff, and move it to other place of the body like your ass, thighs, upper arms and tummy. (Damn you, gut mayhem induced adipose tissue! *shakes fist*) Well, Tiny Tea helps reset your gut and gets it working properly again. Your stomach will start digesting the right foods correctly, and your body will move all of the nutrients that it was confused with before, to the right places. Happy gut=happy body.

Since drinking the magic tea, I feel like I am actually taking in the nutrients from what I am eating, which in-turn has been giving me more energy, less headaches and bloating, and helps me from craving unnecessary foods all day long. But I will have to say, do not drink this stuff before going to sleep, because no actual sleeping will take place. You will just lay there in the dark, thinking about how much you would love to sleep...in vain. And just when you think the time has come to fall into a deep slumber, the sun will shine through the window and your neighbor will pull out his leaf-blower.

So since you have to drink the tea 30 minutes before every meal, I have had to eat dinner a little earlier in the evening to prevent any sleeping issues. Which is actually better in the long run, teatox or not. Then, right before bed, I will drink a cup of Sleep Tea just for good measure. I have only been doing the teatox for about 2 weeks, so I am excited to see how awesome my body will be functioning by the end.

(I had to get the travel mug so I get the free shipping. I had to...)

I'm definitely not where I want to be health wise yet and still have a long way to go on my fitness journey. But I am just taking it one day at a time and eventually I will get there. I will keep you guys posted on other things I come across that help me or I cant live with out. So until then, peace!

"You know how it is, rockin' and rollin' and what not."

Alright, after watching the 'Grease: Live' special a couple weeks ago, I got the urge to re-watch the original Grease and Grease 2. As I was watching these classic movies, I kept thinking to myself "I would totally wear that outfit." or "I know guys who dress almost exactly like that." It was crazy to realize how similar the styles are today as they were then. We are all dressing like our parents and grandparents did, which is so weird. I grew up thinking my parents were so out of style and lame; but now here I am, raiding their closet for their old clothes....jokes on me.

Anyway, for some reason I haven't been able to stop thinking about ways to alter the characters style to be wearable today. I thought about it so much that I finally just decided to do a little "look-book" of a some outfits that I thought of. It was really fun for me to put together so I hope guys enjoy.
